AbOUT ABEN's SUMMER
Registering for ASI is one of the most significant investments you can make in your career— and in your students— during this unbelievably tough time in the history of teaching.
Our highly-acclaimed Annual Summer Institute has responded to the needs of educators during this pandemic and ABEN’s founder and her board of directors pivoted the in-person conference into an on-line platform to create the best virtual experience you will ever have. It will be focused on supporting the most vulnerable students before COVID-19 —who will be even more vulnerable once it subsides.
We have partnered with the founders of AYA Education Institute, the brilliant Wekesa and Afiya Madzimoyo, who have been at the forefront of Black, on-line home-schooling for nearly 20 years. Using AYA’s expertise in providing on-line education, ABEN’s virtual environment aims to mirror what you would have experienced in person on the Stanford University campus.
After the morning sessions end (refer to the Conference Agenda),* each institute participant will spend 90 minutes in the afternoon in chat rooms with people either from your same school district, or from a demographic similar to yours.
Each room will have an ABEN-trained facilitator guiding a series of questions to help attendees think of how they can use the content just shared by the morning speakers in their spheres of influence.
After 60 minutes of robust thinking and creating, each attendee will take 2-3 minutes to share what he or she has developed. Post-Institute, ABEN will gather representative samples of the products created to share with all attendees.
* Depending upon PST, CST, or EST zones, please note that ASI's start time is always 8:30 a.m. (PST) .
